Dental plan terminology: contract period
It's important to be aware of your dental plan's contract period. The contract period is the span of time during which your benefits are valid. A dental plan's contract period is typically 12 months from a defined effective date. However, contract periods can be adjusted to fit the needs of a company, so your plan's period may be slightly longer or shorter. In addition, your plan may not follow a calendar year.
Keep in mind that you can receive your dental plan ID card in the mail before your benefits are effective. If you use your ID card for dental procedures before your plan's effective date, the services provided won't be considered for payment by your dental plan.
Be sure to reference your plan information or check with your employer to verify your dental plan's contract period.
